About Coach Ben

Basketball has shaped my life — and now my mission is to help shape the next generation of young hoopers.
I was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, California, where my journey with basketball began at a young age. From AAU competition to varsity basketball as a freshman, the game quickly became more than just a sport; it became a discipline, a structure, and a purpose.
After transferring to Birmingham High School in Lake Balboa, I had the privilege of playing under Coach Andre McCarter — a former UCLA standout who played under the legendary John Wooden and was later drafted into the NBA. Under his mentorship, I developed not only my scoring ability and basketball IQ, but a deep understanding of how the game should be taught.
By my junior and senior seasons, I was ranked among the top players in the Los Angeles CIF Section and finished my high school career ranked #45 in the state of California. I earned multiple All-Star selections, Player of the Month honors, and helped lead championship teams throughout my career.
I continued my playing career at Los Angeles Pierce College, where I averaged 16.7 points and 9.4 assists per game as a freshman point guard, helping lead the program to its first semifinal playoff run. I later transferred to UCLA, joining the Bruins during their Final Four season.
But while my playing career shaped me, coaching is where I found my calling.
Today, I serve as a youth basketball coach in Central Texas, leading championship teams in the Leander Youth Basketball League and working as a select coach with the nationally recognized Brandy Perryman Shooting Camp. My coaching philosophy is rooted in fundamentals, accountability, and confidence-building.
I believe:
• Every great player starts with elite fundamentals
• Confidence is built through preparation
• The right coaching environment changes a child’s trajectory
• Basketball is a vehicle for character development
I’m proud to be part of a coaching lineage that traces back to the principles of John Wooden — discipline, teamwork, preparation, and playing the game the right way.
Whether your child is just starting out or looking to elevate their game to the next level, my commitment is the same: develop skill, build confidence, and teach the game the right way.
Because this isn’t just about basketball.
It’s about growth, on and off the court.
